Hi! I’m Cate Tyson. I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister and friend. I have always been the person with their camera furiously snapping away trying to capture every moment and every memory. It was always more than a hobby. It was more of a passion. For me seeing a photo is like taking a trip back in time. I am able to remember the day clearly down to the mood, the weather, the smells and the sounds.
This passion to capture those fleeting moments and precious memories was heightened with the arrival of my children; both the 2-legged and 4-legged children. I feared not being able to remember the first Halloween costume my son wore or if my daughter made a mess with her first birthday cake. I craved documenting every step.
Friends and family have encouraged my passion and suggested I start a photography business. I was so excited at the thought of combining my hobby, my passion and a business. And, before long, Snapping Turtles Photography was hatched.
I have never been a good subject in a studio environment. I was never able to feel comfortable and actually smile genuinely. I am drawn to and prefer photographs of people (including myself) in their environment which is why I prefer to photograph my subjects outside of a studio. I prefer to immerse myself into my subjects’ environment. That might be on the ground in a big pile of leaves or at the top of the tallest slide. I go where I need to snap the perfect shot.
